NU.nl
NUsimpel
Making news more accessible
At NU.nl, I contributed to research focused on simplifying news content for a broader audience. The goal was to provide users with a quick and clear overview of what the news is about. I conducted both quantitative and qualitative UX research with NU.nl’s target audience. The insights were presented to the product and editorial teams, supporting decision-making around feature development and content presentation.
User Journey Mapping
Understanding the user path
I introduced User Journey mapping at NU.nl to better understand user experience across areas that received significant feedback, including the website (for both new and returning users), the mobile apps (iOS and Android), and the TV guide. These journeys provided a detailed view of pain points and opportunities. I presented the results to the development team, which led to several brainstorming sessions focused on how to improve and innovate the way these elements fit into the broader user experience.
NUstories
Explaining news in story format
To make news more digestible for a wider audience and more engaging for younger readers, I worked on a pilot project introducing NUstories: short, visual stories that explain news articles using images and little text. I was responsible for both the user research and the design of the stories, ensuring they were intuitive, visually appealing, and aligned with user needs. I conducted quantitative research using Usabilla (now Surveymonkey) and performed qualitative interviews to gather feedback. The insights and design outcomes were presented to the product and editorial teams, directly informing the next phases of development.
Ongoing UX-Research
Continuous insight for iteration
In addition to project-specific work, I regularly contributed to weekly UX research cycles at NU.nl. This included both quantitative and qualitative research on a wide range of topics across the platform. The research focused on user needs, testing of new features, innovations, visual design elements, accessibility, language use in articles, and the alignment with our target audiences. These continuous insights played a crucial role in informed decision-making and iterative improvement throughout the product development process.
